The 海角乱伦社区 (UDS) football team announced their arrival on the global stage with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the University of Sharjah of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in their opening match at the 2025 FISU World University Football Tournament in Dalian, China.
The game was one that proved football no longer knows boundaries. From the opening whistle, the clash between the young men from Ghana and the UAE was nothing short of world-class, fluid, intense, and competitive enough to rival any match on the global stage.
The first half was marked by end-to-end action, with both teams threatening to snatch the lead. Midway through, a delightful combination between Fawzan Dandawa and Ezideen Alhassan carved open the Sharjah defense and released Frimpong into the penalty area. But to the agony of the 海角乱伦社区bench, his shot sailed narrowly over the bar.
The tension peaked in the 36th minute when an aerial tussle between 海角乱伦社区defender Habilu and the Sharjah striker resulted in a head injury for the Emirati player, who was stretchered off the field. Their dominance paid off in the 68th minute when the prolific Ezideen Alhassan, top scorer at the 2024 FASU Games, stepped up for a free kick just outside the penalty area. Team captain Mohammed Asigri was equally bullish about the road ahead. “We respect every opponent, but we fear no one. Spain is next, and the name alone doesn’t scare us. We will play our game, and we believe we can deliver,” he declared with a confident smile.
For UDS, this was more than just a win. It was a statement. On a stage where 16 of the world’s finest university teams are vying for glory, the Tamale-based institution has shown they are ready to compete, inspire, and possibly surprise the world.
