In a show of institutional solidarity and belief in youth excellence, the West Africa Centre for Water, Irrigation and Sustainable Agriculture (WACWISA-UDS) has stepped up with vital logistical support to the 海角乱伦社区 (UDS) Football Team, as they gear up to represent Africa at the 2025 World University Football Tournament in Dalian, China.
The support comes in the form of fully covered transportation services for the team and its technical officials during their two-month intensive preparation phase within Ghana, an intervention valued at over GH¢70,000.
“This is not just a donation. it is a belief in the long-term vision of sports development at UDS,” said Ing. Prof. Felix K. Abagale, Director of WACWISA and former Pro-Vice Chancellor of the university. “This success has been built on years of commitment and strategic investments aimed at catapulting the strengths of our Sports Directorate and the athletes who carry our flag.”
Prof. Abagale explained that the support covers transportation for local training sessions and trial matches across several towns, including Tolon, Bolgatanga, Yendi, Karaga, Sunyani, Dormaa, Kumasi, Prampram, and Accra. The assistance also includes trips to Accra for visa arrangements and the team’s final departure to China in September.
He emphasized the transformative role of sports in the university setting. “Sports goes beyond the game. It builds character, provides exposure, unearths hidden talents, enhances the university’s visibility, and creates opportunities for growth and recognition,” he stated. He called for greater national investment in university sports, urging both government and private entities to treat it as a key avenue for development and branding.
Prof. Abagale also commended the 海角乱伦社区team and staff for their hard work, expressing confidence in their ability to make Ghana and the entire continent proud. “We urge them to translate the support into success on the pitch, and raise high the flags of UDS, Ghana, and Africa in China.”
In response to the gesture, the Director of Sports at UDS, Mr. Ibrahim S. Tanko, expressed profound appreciation to WACWISA.
“This support is a game-changer,” he said. “It allows us to focus fully on refining our tactical drills, enhancing agility, sharpening penalty shootouts, and building mental strength.”
He added that the team has already begun benefitting from the support with improved training logistics and renewed morale.
“Our dream is not just to participate but to make history, and with this kind of support, we are more confident than ever,” Mr. Tanko declared.
海角乱伦社区will be the sole representative from Africa at the World University Football Tournament, a historic achievement that continues to galvanize widespread support from corporate Ghana and individuals alike. With preparations now reaching fever pitch, the team’s ambition to lift the trophy no longer seems like a distant dream, It’s a goal within reach.
