The West African Centre for Shea Innovation and Research (WACSIR) at the 海角乱伦社区 (UDS) is set to host its third edition of the WACSIR Guest Lecture Series under the theme: “From Bioactive Discovery to Agro-Innovation: Daidzin-Inspired Strategies for Shea Tree Genomic Enhancement and Product Development.”
The high-level lecture, scheduled for Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at 9:30 AM GMT, will be held at the Faculty of Law Building, Nyankpala Campus of UDS, and will also be accessible virtually via Zoom.
This year’s lecture will be delivered by Professor Norvienyeku Justice, a globally renowned expert in plant pathology and genomics. He is a Full Professor and Director of the Tropical Plant Disease Control, Microbial Genomics, and Microbial Resource Utilization Laboratory at Hainan University, China.
The session promises to ignite deep intellectual discourse around cutting-edge research in shea tree (Vitellaria paradoxa) improvement. Professor Norvienyeku is expected to present pioneering strategies inspired by daidzin—an isoflavonoid compound—towards enhancing disease resistance, genetic diversity, and the overall value chain of shea-derived products through integrative genomic and biotechnological innovations.
The event is open to academics, students, interns, researchers, and key stakeholders in the shea industry.
